The Body Shop Edelweiss range is here, and it’s set to take skincare to a whole new level! More powerful than retinol and with protection from pollution and naturally-derived peptides… let’s take a deep dive into this range, and how it differs from its predecessor Drops of Youth.

How does Edelweiss differ from Drops of Youth?

The Body Shop’s new Edelweiss range has double the concentration of Edelweiss in every drop. Edelweiss extract has also been added as a key ingredient. More on the benefits of Edelweiss later (you’ll like what you read). It packs a punch too, with more antioxidant power than Drops of Youth. PLUS it offers protection from outdoor and indoor pollution (did you know that the very device you’re reading this on is emitting pollution?) It also contains protective peptides. Wow!

What is retinol? Where does retinol come from?

You may have heard of retinol as it’s a buzzword in the beauty industry right now. But what does retinol do, and where does it come from?

Retinol is also known as vitamin A. It’s traditionally found in green and yellow vegetables, fish oils, liver products and egg yolk. Retinol is a powerful antioxidant and helps to promote healthy eyes. When used in skincare, it has smoothing properties, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and brightens the appearance of the skin. That’ll do for me!

The Body Shop’s Edelweiss range contains Edelweiss stem cells and Edelweiss extract, which is 43% more powerful than retinol. Yes, that’s right – more powerful than retinol! This makes it a key antioxidant ingredient, helping to protect the skin from the effects of environmental pollution, whilst benefitting the appearance of the skin.

What do peptides do?

Peptides work to boost the skin’s defence mechanism. They help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and increase the elasticity of the skin. Sounds good to me! In The Body Shop’s Edelweiss range, peptides are naturally derived from rice. No animal ingredients here – another thumbs up!

And what about Edelweiss as a skincare ingredient?

Edelweiss is a hardworking plant, traditionally found in the Alps, and it’s one of the beauty industry’s best-kept secrets.

Edelweiss extract contains leontopodic acid, which is 60% more powerful than the better-known antioxidant ferulic acid.

Edelweiss extract has 43% more antioxidant power than retinol (I’m going to keep saying this), so works to smooth the appearance of the skin. Wrinkles are less pronounced, the skin is protected from pollution and it appears plumper and brighter too. Boom!

What products are in The Body Shop’s Edelweiss range?

The Edelweiss range includes pretty much everything you need for a complete skincare regime. From a gel to foam cleanser, super hero Concentrate and day and night products. Plus a liquid peel, sheet mask and bouncy jelly mist for ad hoc use. There’s more too – they’re really pulled the stops out with this range! I’ve brought the range to life for you in this Edelweiss sneaky peek video. I’d love to hear what you think!
